DirectX - Setup program for DirectX drivers. D. Uninstall - Space Explorer. 4. The program needs DirectX version 8 (7 for Win95). If a correct version of DirectX is not installed in your computer click on the "DirectX" icon in the 'CET' folder. 5. Restart your Windows. Directx setup ============== Insert the program CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Click on Directx icon in the CET group. Running the program =================== Double Click on the Program icon created on Windows desktop. or Choose "Start", "Program", "CET", "Space Explorer". Removing the program ==================== From CET folder choose the "Uninstall" icon. Technical issues: ================= Media Player2 -------------- Media Player 2 is needed. If you don't have sound, you may run the Media Player setup from the CD. Choose "Start", "Run" In the command line type: D:\util\setup.exe (where D is your Cd-Rom drive letter). Mark the "Windows Media Player" check-box. Click "Next". Follow the instructions. For Error Message: "A required .dll file, WinInet.dll, was not found": Install Media player2. MundoVRDLL error ================ Before running the program install Directx from "CET" folder. Using Internet links within the program --------------------------------------- This program includes a large set of direct links to the Internet. In order to use the Internet connectivity you must have either Explorer or Netscape (version 3 and above) browser installed on your system. When trying to open an Internet link from the program make sure that you are already connected to your Internet Service Provider. You can, of course, run the program without being connected to the Web. Notice that if an Internet link from the program is unavailable it is NOT due to any malfunction of the software but rather the specific server is currently "dead" or the link no longer exists. List of AGP graphic cards tested: --------------------------------- Representative Cards Chip ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ - Diamond: Stealth II G460 Intel i740 - Intel: Express3D Intel i740 - Matrox: Millennium G200 MGA - G200 - ATI: Xpert@Play AGP 2X ATI Rage Pro Turbo - ATI: Xpert 128 ATI Rage 128 - Creative Labs Graphics Blaster Riva TNT nVidia Riva TNT - Diamond Monster Fusion 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee Some minor problems might occur while viewing graphics with Ati Xpert 8m and Voodoo 3 3000 Graphic cards. If you don't have the updated drivers, you can download the latest drivers from the following web sites: http://www.winfiles.com/drivers/video.html http://www.windrivers.com/scripts/3dcomp.asp Viewing 3-D models ------------------ - Use a 3-D graphics accelerator card. The graphics card is the one to which your monitor's cable is connected, also known as "video adapter". For viewing the 3-D models you MUST have an AGP 3-D graphics accelerator card with at least 4M MB of memory installed on your system - 3-D quality. The appearance and performance of the 3-D models depends on the quality of your graphics card, on the processor (CPU) capabilities, and on the system memory (RAM). An older graphics card and a slow processor may strongly affect the 3-D experience, display a low quality picture with "funny looking art-effects," slow navigation capabilities, and a poor frame-rate. To fully experience 3-D we suggest that you use at the least a 350MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM and a reasonable 3-D graphics card with 8MB of memory or more (such as Matrox G-200 or Riva-TNT cards). Use 800X600 screen resolution and 16-bits color mode (65536 colors). - Pentium-3 "awareness". This product is "Pentium-3 aware" which means that you will experience better 3-D performance when running it on a Pentium-3 processor based PC. - Screen color-depth mode. Most 3-D graphics cards do not support hardware acceleration in 24-bits color mode (also known as "million of colors" mode). If you experience slow frame-rate try to change your color mode to 16-bits (65536 colors) or to 32-bits. This can be done in you display settings window activated from your settings\control-panel folder. - Screen resolution. This product is tuned to work under 800X600 screen resolution. However, 640X480 and 1024X768 screen resolutions are also supported. If you have only 4MB of memory on your graphics card you may prefer 640X480 screen resolution which may deliver higher frame-rate and smoother 3-D sensation. - ATI cards. Some of ATI's graphics cards (such as ATI Rage-II of ATI 128) do not fully support 16-bits color mode. If you experience strange colors you may prefer a 32-bits color mode for these cards. - Voodoo's 3-D cards. This program uses a mixture of 2-D and 3-D windows. Since some of Voodoo's 3-D cards support only full-screen, non-window mode, these cards are NOT capable of accelerating this software. - Use updated drivers. 3-D is an evolving technology. Most companies that manufacture graphics cards with 3-D support continue to develop the "driver" (the software that runs the card) AFTER the product is already on the market. This is way many users have and old, incomplete drivers with many bugs. These bugs may cause visual mess on the screen while running the software. To solve such problems we recommend that you download the most updated drivers from the manufacturer's Internet site (see the URL above), and install it. SYSTEM.INI changes during setup: -------------------------------- The following line in your SYSTEM.INI were added during setup: FLCCODEC driver is added: ========================= [Drivers] VIDC.AFLC=flccodec.drv VIDC.AFLI=flccodec.drv VIDC.AASC=aasc.drv A backup file of your SYSTEM.INI was saved as SYSTEM.FLC file. If you declined those changes during setup, you may add those lines yourself manually in the system.ini or launch setup.exe from util\ in the CD. Mark the "FlcCodec Drivers" check-box. Click "Next". Follow the instructions. Intel Indeo driver is added: =========================== [Driver32] VIDC.IV50=ir50_32.dll A backup file of your SYSTEM.INI was saved as SYSTEM.IND file. if you declined those changes during setup, you may add those lines yourself manually in the system.ini or launch setup.exe from util\ in the CD. Mark the "Indeo Drivers" check-box. Click "Next". Follow the instructions. MCIVIDEO is added: ================== In the [MCI] section the setup adds: CETVIDEO=MCIQTZ.DRV In the [MCI32] section the setup adds: CETVIDEO=MCIQTZ32.DLL A backup file of your SYSTEM.INI was saved as SYSTEM.QTZ file. if you declined those changes during setup, you may add those lines yourself manually in the system.ini or launch setup.exe from util\ in the CD. Mark the "Cet Video Drivers" check-box. Click "Next". Follow the instructions. Word processor recommendation ============================= The activities documents, which are a part of this title, are optimized for viewing and editing using Microsoft Word. However, most of them can be reasonably viewed using WordPad, which is a standard Windows tool. You may experience some difficulties viewing the activities documents, which contain tables and pictures, when using WordPad. Working with other applications =============================== While working with this program, avoid minimizing or moving to another applications using Alt+Tab. The upper Menu can be restored by right-mouse-clicking the program icon on the Task-Bar and clicking "Restore". Lack of resources ================= A blue frame will appear around the main screen, in case of resources shortage DOS programs ============ You may experience problems when trying to run this title and other DOS programs simultaneously. The problem occurs when you move directly from the title to a full screen DOS program. Solution: if you must use a DOS program simultaneously with the title, try to view it in a Window mode. PowerSaver utility ================== This product does not support PowerSave 1.0 utility. If PowerSave shuts down the system while a 3-D world is active it may be impossible to invoke the system and you will have to reboot it. Solution: Turn off PowerSave while running this product or avoid leaving a 3-D World running without touching the mouse or keyboard (so PowerSave will not be activated). Enjoy yourself.
